Nowadays I think social media is the best way to generate traffic to your website as long as you can come up with a way to provide your audience with lots of graphic content. People just love to look at stuff on the internet with pictures and that’s it! Once they like it, they share it and it multiplies.

If you’re using social media to market to those consumers who probably don’t use social media (the elderly, for example) then it wouldn’t be effective. But I think social media is the best and easiest way to generate traffic. The potential for things to go viral and reach multiple audiences is great.
I think it’s helpful to provide a list but companies have to remember that not all social media is alike. Each one has its devotees. For instance, Pintrest tends to be women, while Reddit tends to be guys under 30, which is a great demographic. But Reddit also has its own culture, slightly less trusting, but once they see you’re legit, and not just there to spam, there’s a lot of respect.
